One of the best and busiest weeks of my life condensed into a few pictures and sentences? Sure, no problem. Super easy and very accurate.
Monday, July 25th.
Today we moved into our new location, LSE Bankside. This place is a dormitory of some sorts, but lots of people use it as a hotel. Feels like home. Two twin mattresses in a small space? Sign me up. We dropped off our luggage and waited on the others. Then, two taxis later, we all went off to explore the area.
We visited the Natural History Museum right after that (home of Dippy the dinosaur). This place was really interesting, and it was the first type of museum that we visited that was more science-y. Women in STEM, right? They had this semi realistic earthquake simulator you could stand in. The others and I agreed the real deal was more scary than the museum made it seem. I wanted to fall and experience terror. They did not deliver.
On our walk back from the museum we discovered a small Art book shop. I would love to go back and look for more international style books. I did find some neat little typography from the 1800's books though. We also got some delicious dinner at a ramen place called Tonkostu.
When the end of our night began to close we had a small tea and coffee hangout with some other CCSA groups just arriving in london. I felt like a professional with my prior one week experience.
Tuesday, July 26th.
Tuesday was a really inspiring day. We had a meeting as a group with Pentagram, one of the most popular and prestigious design firms in London. They have a main branch located further away that we took a tube to. They gave some really good advice for internships and jobs and things. Something along the lines of “Do a bunch internships focused on many different specialties. Coding, Pottery, whatever it is.”
We ate an Italian restaurant for lunch this day. I had a very pretty and colorful meal. Tasted good too, if you were curious. For dinner we had Tonkostu. Again. But this time outside! I don’t regret anything though. Chilli Chicken ramen for the win. We also tried the laundry situation out this night. Honestly it wasn’t as bad as I thought.
Wednesday, July 27th.
Today we just kind of explored and had class. Some of us got to watch a Broadway show after dinner on Piccadilly Street, which was The Book of Mormon. It was absolutly hilarious. I also managed to get a couple of booklets for it too!
Thursday, July 28th.
Thursday started at Tate Modern, which was a big goal of mine. I think its so cool to say that I've seen majority of my favorite pieces of art since this trip. I saw some art from Diego Rivera, Fernand Leger, and of course a classic by Piet Mondrian. Afterwards we had another Design Firm meeting at Grand Opus. Also absolutely inspiring. This place really made me feel like I had some hope in landing a dream job. After that we did a really funny ghost bus tour that was exactly 55 minutes long. Spooky. Not even a full hour.
Friday, July 29th.
We started today off with Tate Britain, a nice contrast to Tate Modern. I feel like I enjoyed Tate Britain more because there were not as many kids, and the muesum didn't feel over bearing. I feel like I missed some of Tate Modern. Good thing we live right next to it, I will probably go back. After that we ate some yummy cake (curtesy of Paige.. Thank you!) and ran into Kara on our way out. She invited us to join her in another bonus museum called the "Wellcome" Museum. It was like an acid trip? So odd. Really cool. There was an astronaut on your left, breast milk smelling rock on the right, human skull in front of you vibes. Worth it for sure. That night rounded out with us taking a small walk on the Southbank to the skate park. I have a small crush on all of them now.
Saturday, July 30th.
Another Saturday, another homework-workday. This was the first day we didnt walk 20,000 steps. It felt so weird. So we decided to walk the same trip back to the skatepark. We got gelato this time. The guy who gave me it also gave me his number, he also asked me to go bowling with him? In London, England? As if I wasn't displaced enough? Maybe he can be a tour guide.
Sunday, July 31st
Today we started with the V&A Museum. I think it was my second favorite museum so far. I'll rank all of them on the last week. We ate a snack (I forgot to get breakfast) in the small garden exhibit. TOO good. Felt very fancy. We then walked on over to the Science museum and ate a real lunch. Mediocre. I guess thats what you get for a muesum. Not a restaurant? What did I expect? Anyway, we got back from that museum and worked out our week plans to travel to Scotland. It was very stressful. Thats it! Fun week.
