Kyndall's Week Two Abroad...

July 25

Today was the day that my lack of sleep really caught up with me. We had to move locations and find a way to get luggage across town and it was just a mess.

On our way to the Natural History Museum, some other stuff went down and again just a mess but we did get to see DIPPY!

This beautiful little dinosaur cast really turned my day around.

Once we got back and finally got to check into our new hotel I took a fat nap. That night we went to the Hard Rock Cafe Picadilly Circus in had some banging nachos, so if I’m sick artifacts, and then acted like it was my birthday again and get them to bring us free ice cream.

The day started on a sour note but ended up pretty okay.

July 26

I tried the English breakfast at the new hotel and it was just all right, pretty similar to the food at St. Giles.

Then we had class and I got a really good amount of progress done on my projects for class.

After class, we got to go visit pentagram, the world's largest independent graphic design/branding firm. I loved all the information that I got and I got to ask a lot of important questions. I’m so thankful I asked Natalie to try and hook us up and get a tour there.

Then we went to this restaurant called The Jam that these really cool bunked booths but we sat at the bottom one. The food was okay but we had a great time.

I’m excited to go see the Book of Mormon tomorrow!

July 27

We finally got to sleep in a little today!!

After that, we had class at 10:30 with Kara in the basement.

Towards the end of class, we bought tickets to Edinburgh!! I’m so excited that we’re going to Scotland!

Then we headed, the 7 of us, to go to see the Book of Mormon. Before the musical, we went to shake shack.

Then we saw the musical! It was hilarious, the funniest musical I’ve ever seen ( but I’ve only seen like two lol). But it was really good and I’m so glad I decided to go!

That night we booked the Air BnB for Scotland. I am so pumped.

July 28

Today we went to the Tate Modern, it’s right across from our hotel so that was nice.

This is one of my favorite museums so far. It had a lot of the work that we talked about and guide you into class this past semester. I got to see the armor toilet in the Piet Mondrian piece that is color blocked. It was really neat to see these pieces in person.

After the museum, we went to Shake shack and I got a cute little hot dog, very yummy. We did just have Shake shack the night before the Madison and Haley didn’t get any.

You’re a little rest, the group went to visit another big design firm. This firm was pretty cool. They had a really nice rebrand of Oscar Meyer and their work looked more closely to what I produce. The office was also full of plants and was really cute. It got me excited about what the future has to hold.

After brand opus, we got dinner at the Amazon store and headed to a fun little Ghostbusters I expected it to be very historical and a little spooky but it was really just a goofy, bus ride around London. I’m not even completely convinced that the tour guide didn’t make everything up. A little disappointed with the spookiness but pleasantly surprised by the funniness. After that, the group that went on the bus tour went for a few pints in a pub or Jack the Ripper had gotten some of his victims…spooky…

July 29

Today we went to the Tate Britain. This is the first museum then we got to test out Madison’s app called Muser. It was pretty cool.

The museum wasn’t my favorite so I was ecstatic when we decided on Wingstop for lunch. My favorite! After lunch, we went home for a nap, and then we all went to a sushi place close by and went to Amazon for us to get bottles of wine. We sat in the basement, did homework and drank our bottles, and watched The Conjuring 2 because it’s set in London.

A very memorable and productive day!

I’m getting super excited to head to Scotland soon!!

I’m so grateful some of us are still getting to go!

July 30

Today we spent the entire day in the basement getting stuff done.

I finished my initial illustration for my poster for Natalie‘s class and I had a meeting with Kara about my move forward in the direction of my project.

W quickly got Leon for lunch and we went straight back to the basement to work. I got a lot done and it was much needed!

Then we made reservations to a putt-putt bar with Natalie, Madison, Abby, Haley, and Sydney. We stopped for Mexican food on the way because we are seriously missing it. The Mexican just does not compare to El Maz.

We played our round and I tied for first with Sydney! B I’m basically a professional golfer now. Then a staff party came to our table and wouldn’t leave us alone.

Then we took the bus home and I don’t think, no I know, that I’ve ever had to pee more in my life than I did waiting on the delayed bus! Lol, but it was a great night.

July 31

Today was a very stressful morning. We needed to go to two museums and make it home to pack and make the train for Scotland.

We went to the Victorian Albert and then the Science Museum. The VA was really neat and I would love to go back and explore more. My favorite room was the room with all of the really amazing sculptures like a cast of Michelangelo's David.

The science museum is very overwhelming and was difficult for me, personally, to navigate. I think that I would have been able to enjoy it a lot more if it wasn’t summer and everyone in London hadn’t brought their children there on the same day.

After the museums, I got a yummy sandwich in the walkway before the two. Then I went home to pack and shower before heading out to…SCOTLAND!

So we all had to lug our stuff onto a bus that was heading to the station. There were two strollers in the luggage area so Haley and I have to stand with our carry-ons rolling around all over the place but overall it wasn’t too bad.

Once we get to the station we realized it was the Harry Potter station that he takes off from to go to Hogwarts. So I thought that was kind of cool. We are bored and get going, Sydney finagles a seat next to me and we are ready to rock ‘n’ roll and then we slow down, and then we stop… And then someone comes over the loudspeaker and announces that there was a group of sheep on the tracks that the last train had run through so we needed to wait.

RIP 🐑

Other technical difficulties occur but we eventually make it to Scotland and the delays get us half off of our ticket cost. First order of business- McDonald’s. We get our snack and have a 15 minute walk to the Airbnb which could’ve been completely fine, had it not been upstairs nearly nearly the entire time! But it’s all good we all made it.

First impression, it’s breathtakingly beautiful from the nature to the architecture in art. Second impression, the people are not very kind.
