Sydney's First Week

Writer's picture: Sydney VestSydney Vest

Day one:

Starting on the Plane: The plane food was gross and made me feel nauseous but the movie I watched was good. We ate at 7 am and then didn’t get dinner until 5:30… that sucked, but the day was just so busy it couldn’t be helped. We got a handle on the neighborhood I think - after dinner the whole class went to a pub and tried different drinks and that was a lot of fun. I think this is going to be a great trip- going to bed early from the time change and is being so tired.

Day two:

Haley and I are wide awake and it’s five am so we decided to get ready and we’re going to go explore a bit before breakfast. We went to a local small store and got some souvenirs, ate breakfast when it opened at 6:30, and took a nap before leaving with the class. With class we went to Buckingham palace and saw the changing of the guard. It was so hot. Hottest day in history for London. So hot. Then we went to West Mister street Abbey and it was stunning. After that we broke for lunch and we went to a fish and chips place called Munchkins. It was really good. Now we’re off to class. Class was class you know, but I’m really excited about the projects they’re giving us and I think we’re going to make some really cool things here. We went to dinner at Wasabi across the street and I got sweet and chili chicken and Gyoza and it was pretty good. After that we went to Balle Ballerson- a bar filled with ball pits and it was BOGO drinks, so I had a blast!! I think fun things like this make me feel really in my element. We tried McDonalds on our way home and it was pretty much the same as home and hit the spot. That’s all for today :)

Day 3:

We woke up and went to breakfast before class- I don’t think I like their breakfast here very much… but still out for judgement. Then I led class to the British museum and we explored that for a couple hours and it was endlessly big! So many cool things- however most of it is stolen. I loved seeing the real (and fake) Rosetta Stone, Cleo Patras mummy, and the big statue, The Easter Island Head, from “The Night at the Museum.” Then we broke for lunch and my group went to Franco Manca where I got pizza and garlic bread. It was different- really thin- but still very good. Next up, we went to the Museum of London and explored around a bit- in my opinion it wasn’t nearly as cool as the first one (still cool though). Then we went to a Starbucks to see the difference, and the walking bridge from the Harry Potter movie to take pictures. For dinner we went to an Indian restaurant that was good. After that we walked around a bit, explored what was near by, and came home to work on homework.

Day 4:

We woke up and went to breakfast- I have decided I don’t like their breakfast at the hotel, so Haley and I went and bought Pop-tarts from the Salisbury Grocery Store. Then we had Natalies class in the Starbucks around the corner because the sage and chili guys kicked us out and they were really rude to Natalie. The after class we went to a Raman place around the corner and it was delicious. I got Raman and Gyoza and I can’t rave about it enough. Then we had Kara’s class. After class we headed to the eye, but it was sold out so we got on a boat tour and it was really cool. Across the river from where we got off had a colorful restaurant looking place so we headed over. By the time we got there we found out it was a bar and just got 5 guys that was right there. We still sat at the outside bar because it was by this ampitheater and they had like music. After a while we headed home to do homework and go to bed.

Day 5: We woke up at 8 and I ate a pop tart- we bought those after breakfast yesterday so we wouldn’t have to eat at the hotel anymore. For class we went to the national gallery and it had a lot of baby Jesus and some really cool famous pieces. After that we went to Pret for lunch and I tried some new things. Then we want to class at Starbucks and starting planning what we’ll do for our free weekend.
