For this week (July 30rd-August 6th), I took images of typefaces featured at a food truck festival located near our hotel dorm. Southbank was one of the more modern/trendy areas we've discovered in London with fun, vibrant colors, delicious foods, and an overall fun vibe.
1) OXO Tower Wharf Welcome Sign
Oxford Tower Wharf, August 5th, 2022.
This sign was found on our walk back from the food truck event. To me, this sign is very similar to the Supreme logo, with the bold, red background and the white sans serif font. I think it is interesting that they chose to skew the actual sign so that it is more visually interesting.
2) Crepes Light Sign
Southbank, London, August 5th, 2022.
As you may know from my previous Type Walks, I LOVE a good neon/light-up sign. I believe that they bring a lot of added emphasis to type. It also gives a retro vibe that I also really like.
3) Churros Sign
Southbank, London, August 5th, 2022.
A more traditional display, this typeface is shown on a flat poster design. I really like to see handwritten script fonts used as accent fonts in this way. I think this reflects the nature of churros being a fun food.
4) National Theatre Serving Your Summer Sign
Southbank, London, August 5th, 2022.
This sign was featured outside of the National Theatre in Southbank. Despite being minimal, this post utilizes nontraditional design to portray its meaning. Obviously, one of these aspects is vertical alignment. And, although subtle, the angular font adds a bit of attitude to this signage.
5) Mexican Street Kitchen Food Truck Signage
Southbank, London, August 5th, 2022.
This is quirky way-finding sign found on a food truck near the Southbank area. I've noticed that a lot of the time way-finding signage (especially in museums) is a bit stale. I like that they took the liberty of using causal copywriting paired with organic shapes and bold colors.
