Type Walk the Walk: Week 2

"Dippy Returns" , Natural History Museum, 7/25

Dippy's back! And Dippier than ever.

When discovering the hype behind Dippy, I not only found myself intrigued to see the dinosaur, but I found myself fascinated by taking a simple font and displaying it with a simple castle illustration. The font also uses the p's to cover the empty space between the "t" in returns which allows it to feel connected rather than split.

Tate Museum, 7/28

One of the most interesting discoveries I've found this week is this piece found at the Tate Museum. Not only does this represent my favorite color, green, but the blocky shape with the various light displays showcasing the multiple s' sends me through an endless loop that I can't help but not look away.

"Everything Else Has Failed! Don't You Think It's Time For Love?", Tate Museum, 07/28

Despite being a simple font, it sends a message and asks the viewer a personal question. The display showcased this in various colors despite all being the same poster with the same figure.

"The Whole World + The Work = The Whole World" Tate Museum, 7/28

I found this at the fourth floor at the top of the Tate Museum. While this isn't a museum piece, I found the message to be very fulfilling. I also found the glowing letters of this white font to attract my attention instantaneously. It doesn't use all caps to send the message, but rather let the lights and Helvetica font.

Canvey Street, 07/25

On the streets of Canvey Street lies various "wheels" filled with messages in green and white chalk. I found this font type very intriguing not just due to the texture the sidewalk adds, but the doodly and curvy font type they provided. It's as if the artist chose made sure people would read this message with a more interesting font rather than designing something basic.
