Do: Type Walk. Don't: Type and Walk.

London is such an eccentric and beautiful location. This past week (July 17-24, 2022) I have experienced many new places and people, foods and clothes. It is hard to capture that essence in just a few photos. There are too many to include in my Type Walk recap. I can only imagine how many more magical places I will encounter. I also couldn't help myself with a cheesy ( and slightly embarrassing) title for this first week celebration.
You'll notice, like I quickly did, that typefaces that are sans serif, slightly worn, and usually convey a message. Whether that is to visit, spend money, or look into a movement (usually what you'll find stuck to a lightpost surface, along with other artist names, or even cool stickers!).
These five photos above are interestingly - for the most part - located in a part of London named Camden Market. It is a location that can't be descibed with words, and where photos are necessary to capture a glimpse of. I have also travelled within parts of central london, included many of the popular musuems, attractions, and streets. While there are many honorable mentions, I have to say that the historical detail in some of the typefaces in older buildings is incredible. It is almost shocking to witness the juxtaposition of newer ( as in 1900's and up) architecture versus the old. Even more so, the signage is beautiful no matter the style or age. Many of the locations I have enjoyed the most are chaotically beautiful, and not nessesarily "typical" for clean aesthetics or architecture. This includes lots of graffiti and collage.
Here is a quick look into the background of these photos!

This site has a rich history! Originally opened in 1900, the Hippodome Building was a circus and entertainment center. After a few restorations, reconstructions, and repurposes, the beloved business is now a "full circle moment" in which is hosts entertainment and is a casino as well.
This classic sans serif font is a great representation of the adaptability of this building. I believe the story simply adds to the glamor!
